Ali Noble

Arcane Folly is the third iteration of Cybele Cox and Ali Noble's ongoing collaboration known as The Golden Flowerpot. An evolving project, which works across the disciplines of installation, ceramics, painting, and textiles to create vivid, theatre like environments.

The title of the exhibition, Arcane Folly, is drawn from a shared interest in the notion of 'folly'. The artists are simultaneously intrigued by the folly of art practice itself, and the concrete manifestation of folly as elaborate buildings or gardens built by eccentrics.

The artists ask whether creating an imaginative space to share and reflect can be act of resistance to the prevailing consumerist environment we find ourselves living in? Could it be that art imbued with a richly imagined alternate universe is more rational than ever?
